The Green River Academy Preservation Society’s annual charity ball fundraiser, the “Blue Moon Ball,” will be held on Saturday, October 18, 7PM at the Jefferson Davis State Park in Fairview, Kentucky to raise funds for the preservation of the historic Green River Academy. This year’s theme for the event is inspired by the membership of the school reaching its 180 year anniversary, and will showcase the history of the school and feature Kentucky products from around the state.
This year’s attendees will be treated to locally made barbecue and trimmings. Guests will also enjoy Kentucky themed cocktails and wines sponsored by Four Roses Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey and Budweiser of Hopkinsville. The event will feature live music from Nashville band “Bueller.” The Blue Moon Ball, along with other Green River Academy Preservation Society events throughout the year, raises significant funding for the preservation of the 19th century academy located in Elkton, Kentucky.
As of this year, the Academy is being restored with the help of a Community Development Block Grant awarded in the amount of $500,000 by Governor Steven L. Beshear & the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Plans for the building call for a training facility for area community members who desire to expand their educations in order to compete in the local career market for jobs in new advanced technologies that have recently taken root in the western Kentucky region. The building will also serve as a local commerce center, in addition to possessing a professionally managed and accredited archives for relics of the region’s history.
